Calcium Pyruvate
  • 500 mg
  • 60 capsules
Ingredients:
Calcium Pyruvate 500 mg
Dosage: 2 capsules 3 times daily or as directed by a health professional.

27 years of extensive research and clinical studies on Calcium Pyruvate with human subjects at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center have shown that groups using the nutrient calcium pyruvate experience:

                               37% more weight loss
                               48% more fat loss
20% - 50% more endurance and physical performance

Calcium-pyruvate has been making a mark within the scientific research and fitness realm as of late. You might ask what all the fuss is over pyruvate, after all pyruvate occurs naturally in the body and is the end product of the glycolysis (metabolism of sugar). All the fuss is over a discovery made at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, they showed that a diet supplemented with pyruvate increased fat loss by up to 48% and minimized the associated loss of body protein. Normally during dietary restriction to promote fat loss, there's always a corresponding loss of muscle; this study shows otherwise.

Scientists who have been studying pyruvate believe it may accelerate fat loss by increasing "cellular respiration"-the amount of energy the mitochondria uses. At the University of Texas at Austin, the Department of Kinesiology looked at female Zucker rats and the role that calcium-pyruvate would play in obese Zucker rats with a modified diet. Their findings were that the calcium-pyruvate fed rats gained significantly less weight, had a lower food conversion efficiently and maintained a higher resting oxygen consumption (mL.min- I x kg-0.67) than the control rats. The calcium-pyruvate also lowered the respiratory exchange ratio of the rats resulting in a 90% increase in their lipid oxidation and a 50% decrease in their carbohydrate oxidation. These results suggest that calcium-pyruvate may favorably alter the metabolism of obese Zucker rats.

Preliminary research and anecdotal evidence with humans (bodybuilders) has been promising. (Some protocol call for as much as 30 grams of pyruvate daily.) Certainly this volume would result in stomach upset in most people. Fortunately, more recent studies are showing that the optimal dosage of pyruvate necessary to produce results may be as little as 5 to 10 grams a day.

Calcium-pyruvate is a hot product that could be around for a long time. Calcium-pyruvate may even reduce fat without exercise, which makes this an extremely attractive "fat burner" for those people who have trouble sticking to an exercise routine. For those who are able to maintain a strict exercise routine, but have trouble losing weight, pyruvate may help them attain their goals without the nervousness/jittering caused by some thermogenic fat burners. The fact that calcium-pyruvate may increase endurance by up to 20% makes it even more attractive to bodybuilders and anyone who is on a calorie restricted diet because of how hard it is to get intense workouts once you have cut back on calories. The added endurance may make getting an intense workout easier.

Questions & Answers : CALCIUM-PYRUVATE

Q: There seems to be a hot now product on the market every other month and this month the talk is over calcium-pyruvate. What is it?

A: The business of sports supplementation is very competitive, you have to try and stay one step ahead of everyone else in supplying effective products to the consumer. This is why there seems to be such advances in new product development. Another explanation to the number of new products appearing on the market could be that researchers at major universities conduct studies and publish their findings at the expense of some manufacturers. Calcium-pyruvate was introduced at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as a dietary supplement that may help an individual lose fat and weight without the loss of body protein.
Q: Has Pyruvate been shown to improve other aspects of weight training?
A: Research done at the University of Texas at Austin on female obese Zucker rats revealed that by adding calcium-pyruvate to a diet helped lower the respiratory exchange ratio resulting in a 90% increase in their lipid oxidation and a 50% decrease in their carbohydrate oxidation. This shows that calcium-pyruvate may favorably alter one's metabolism. Some research has shown that calcium-pyruvate may even help people who do not workout lose weight by raising their metabolic rate.

Q: If I decide to start taking calcium-pyruvate, how much should I take?

A: Some of the early studies looked at taking 30 grams of calcium-pyruvate per day. This was criticized by many researchers because taking 30 grams per day would be expensive to consumers and would make even the most tolerant individual have an upset stomach. Recent studies have now shown that in order to get the optimal dosage of calcium-pyruvate one may only have to take 3 to 6 grams per day.
