EVENING PRIMROSE OIL

Newsweek: Ritalin: Are We Overmedicating Our Kids?A natural oil for your hormones

The seed oil is a good source of GLA, derived from linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid from the omega 6 family. An essential fatty acid is a nutrient that the body can't make but is essential to good health. Evening Primrose Oil has been used for premenstrual syndrome ( PMS ) and mastalgia ( sore breasts ) Studies to date have been conflicting, some show a significant reduction in breast pain, while others fail to confirm this.inflammation.  Its effect is both very potent and very mild.

Prostaglandins are hormonal substances derived from non-saturated fatty acids. They play a specific role in the regulation of sexual hormones, the thinning of blood and the dilation of blood vessels. The body forms prostaglandin (PG) naturally, from the essential fatty acids that we eat. However, there are times when the body is unable to produce sufficient prostaglandin. This occurs during sickness and when the diet is lacking in essential fatty acids, but is also associated with the normal aging process; women reaching menopause are also particularly deficient in prostaglandin. The phenomenon also arises during the onset of sicknesses that attack myelin (a protective substance surrounding nerve fiber), including multiple sclerosis and certain forms of diabetes.

Scientific research has shown that the essential fatty acids found in the small seeds of a plant known as evening primrose significantly promote the production of prostaglandin. Gamma-linolenic acid, or GLA, which is found in a few rare plants including evening primrose and borage, among others is thought to be the fatty acid primarily responsible for this pharmacological effect. Clinical studies have demonstrated how GLA counteracts the symptoms of menopause (headaches, irritability and fatigue). It has also been established that GLA helps to regenerate the myelin damaged by certain degenerative diseases.

Our primrose oil contains a minimum of 50 mg of GLA per 500-mg capsule.
